It's arrived! Now you need to set up your Karri Messenger so that you can start sending messages.
You can read the detail below, or see a video here of Pete (one of our founders) showing you the basics.
If you haven't already, please download the Karri App and create a Karri Account before completing this step
Charging your Karri Messenger 1
The Karri Messenger does not include a charger in the box. If you do not already have a USB-C cable, these can be purchased separately.
Before you turn on your Messenger, you should charge it using a USB-C cable for at least 4 hours.
Turn on your Karri Messenger
Turn on the Messenger by pressing and holding the power button (top right button) for two seconds. The light will flash green once when the Messenger is on.
Pairing your Karri Messenger 1
The first time you log in to the Karri App, you'll be prompted to pair a Karri Messenger but you can also find this option by tapping the Karri menu and then tapping the '+'.
Next, you'll be asked to scan the QR code on the back of your Messenger via your phone camera (you may need to give the app permission to access this). You can also enter the 15 digit code manually, if you'd prefer.
Once you've done this, you need to select a name for your Messenger (you can add a photo too) before moving to the next step. You'll also need to pick a colour for the first Chat at this stage too.
You're almost there - the Messenger is paired and a Chat has been created but there's a few more steps to complete before you can start messaging.
Getting your Messenger online
You'll now have the option to enter your membership code or purchase a new membership (if you already activated a membership that isn't linked to a Messenger, you'll have the option to use this instead).
Complete this step or select 'Continue with Wi-Fi only' if you only want to use your Messenger at home. You can add a membership later via the Karri menu.
Please note:
Choosing not to activate a membership will mean that your Karri will not work on the mobile phone networks. You won't be able to track the Messenger and it won't receive messages without a membership, unless it is connected to WiFi.
Next, follow the instructions to set up your WiFi connection. If your phone isn't currently connected to the WiFi that you would like to connect your Messenger to, you can skip this step and return to it later, once you're on the correct WiFi. Instructions on how to do this can be found here.
Connecting to WiFi is highly recommended for when at home as it will improve the battery life drastically and allow the Messenger to update automatically when needed.
Sharing access to your Karri Messenger
If you would like someone else to be able to view the location of your Messenger you can give them permission via the Karri menu.
First, add the person you would like to give permission as a contact. Instructions on this can be found here.
Open the Karri menu and select the Karri Messenger that you would like to share. Scroll down to 'Permissions', tap the drop-down arrow and then 'Manage Permissions'. Select the contact you would like to give permission to and then tap 'Done' in the top right corner.
If you ever want to remove permission, you can do this via the same menu.
Added users will only have access to the location and status of the Karri Messenger.
