A Chat between you and your Messenger will be created automatically for you during setup. Create a new Karri Chat to connect with more people!
Before you can create a Chat, you'll need to set up your Karri Messenger
Create a Karri Chat
To create a chat between your child's Karri Messenger and one or more contacts, follow these steps:
Open the Karri App and go to “Chats”.
Tap the “✚” in the top-right corner.
Select “New chat”.
Select your child's Karri Messenger, tap “⮕” to continue.
If you already have some Karri Contacts, you can add them now. (No worries if not, we'll talk you through adding them later!) Then, tap “⮕” again to continue.
Give your Chat a Name*, optionally add a photo, then tap “✔” to finish.
Messenger 1 devices only: You'll also need to choose a chat colour, which will appear on the Messenger's halo light.
* The Chat Name will appear on your child's Messenger, so choose something they'll easily recognise, such as “Mum & Me”, “Dad & Me”, “Grandma & Me”, “Family Chat” or “Best Friends”...
Adding Contacts To Karri Chats
Add Karri Messengers to a Chat:
Open the Karri App and go to “Chats”.
Select the Chat and tap the “ⓘ” icon in the top-right corner and select “Add Members”.
Then “Invite Messenger”.
Scan their QR code, or click on “Enter ID manually” (the ID is the code found below the QR code on the back of their Messenger).
Then tap “✔” to finish.
The child's parent will:
Receive a notification to accept the invitation, and will automatically be added to the chat as well.
Once the chat is set up, the children can exchange voice messages directly between their Karri Messengers
Pro Tip: If you'd rather not receive all their messages on your phone, you can mute the chat by tapping the “ⓘ” icon in the top-right corner. This will only mute notifications for you.
Please note that every chat needs at least one adult admin, so you won't be able to leave the chat entirely.
Add Karri App Users to a Chat:
Open the Karri App and go to “Chats”.
Select the Chat and tap the “ⓘ” icon in the top-right corner and select “Add Members”.
Tick the Karri Contact(s) you'd like to add to the chat.
Or, to add a new Karri Contact, tap “Manage Contacts”, then “Add a contact”.
Enter their Name & Email and tap “✔” to finish.
The recipient will receive an email to:
Download the free Karri App.
Create a free Karri Account (using the same email address)
Once done, they can go to “Chats” and will be able to see the Chats have been added to.
If they already have the Karri App and an Account, they'll be added to your contacts immediately.
Managing Participants and Admin Roles
To manage participants in an existing chat:
Open the Karri App and go to “Chats”.
Select the Chat and tap the “ⓘ” icon in the top-right corner.
From here, you can:
Add Members & Remove Members by tapping the “⮕” arrow next to their name.
Promote a Member to Admin, allowing them to manage the chat independently.
Important: Once a member has been promoted to Chat Admin, other Admins cannot remove them from the chat.
Managing Private Chats
If you'd like a conversation to remain private between your child and another contact (e.g. Dad, Grandma or another family member..), you can leave the chat while allowing them to continue communicating.
To do this:
Open the Karri App and go to “Chats”.
Select the Chat and tap the “ⓘ” icon in the top-right corner.
Select the contact by tapping the “⮕” and give them Admin rights.
Once they're an Admin, you can leave the chat.
The chat will remain active between your child's Karri Messenger and the other participant(s), without you being part of the conversation.
Important: You will have to give another participant Admin Rights before leaving, so they can continue managing the chat. You can still remove the Messenger from the Chat at a later date via the Karri Menu.
